All the participants of this web site have lot of goodwill for Bihar. Many even a have deep desire to do something for Bihar as several have expressed their wish to participate in the building of better Bihar. In my opinion, it is not very difficult to find an opportunity for improving Bihar. Every small step counts. Your contribution could seem very small and may not necessarily bring you a name recognition but it will certainly give you a sense of satisfaction. For example, when you go to vote, make sure that you chose the right person who is truly interested in development of Bihar. This you do without taking into consideration the candidates's caste or religion. Encourage everyone around you to get a good education and not just collect degrees. If you are a student make sure you yourself follow this. If you are working make sure you do your work honestly and work hard. This will build a reputation for Bihari people and earn respect. Provide guidance to other Biharis in areas of your knowledge or expertise.

There are several areas where you can take direct action. Like, keeping the place where you live clean. What I have observed is that we are very meticulous in keeping our house clean but do not care much about the cleanliness outside. In my village, the pucca drain that the panchayat built and that flows in front of everyone's house, is clogged with all kinds of rotten stuff. It requires a very small effort to clean the drain that is breeding grounds of all kinds of harmful bacteria, but no one seems to be bothered. Most people do get sick as the result of this, but unfortunately they fail to see the connection. Do we have to wait for the government to clean the drain that was clogged because of things we throw into it? No, we should not be dependent on the government for things we can do ourselves. If you find a situation like this, take the kudal and get to work. Let the others follow you.

If you really have the drive, you can do what Ramchandra Das, 62 did for his village. He lives in Kewati village in Atari block of Gaya district. He cut down hills and made all-weather road for the villagers and others. He was inspired by another saput of Bihar Dasarath Manjhi who single handedly built his own road cutting a mountain. You can see the photo and read about Ramchandra Das in bjmirror.com. I remember a hindi poem that I read in high school. The poet (I forget his name) compares himself to a small earthen lamp that illuminates the area around him, though he does not have the power of the sun. He is content with his contribution and do not aspire to become like the poweful sun ( I will be really appreciative, if someone can remember the poem and post it). We should consider ourselves as the small earthen lamp trying to dispel the darkness around us.
