Recently large numbers of state capital name has been renamed keeping in view of the interest of the local people of the states like Bomay renamed Mumbai, Madras as Chhenai, Bangalore to Bengaluru, Trivendum to Thriurantpuram, Calcutta as Kolkata and very recently Orissa renamed Odisha then where is the problem why Patna can,t renamed as Patliputra. It will definitelt remind the people of glory past Patliputra and feel proud of being Biharis. As I remember Lt Gen (retd) S.K. Sinha (Ex-Governor of J & K) has already handed over a memorandum in this regard to Shri Nitish Kumar, CM, Bihar

Waah, maan liyaa aapkey buddhi ko. Aap pakka Bihari hai, Maharaj. Ek dakter ko dairy farm kholney ko kah rahey hain. To aap ek Engineer ko Poultry farm, Vakil ko Kirana store, Daroga ji ko Sharab ki Bhatti aur Kirani Babu ko cycle repair ki dukaan kholney ki salaah dengey.
Arrey Saheb, aap apna mukhauta hataaiey aur asli photugeeraf lagaa ker jaraa gyaanvadi logo ki tarah baat kijiey. Ant - sant kyaa bak rahey hain ?

Good idea to chage the names. I am all for it. I offer to start agitation from Khagaul. It will raise our self esteem, we will feel proud. That we live and belong to the era of Ashok, Ajatshatru, Buddha and golden age of Gupta Kings while still living in Laalu - Rabri - Nitish era of poverty, power failure, potholed roads and absent law and order. It will help us escape thrasing by the goons of Thackrey clan too. Those goons will spare us as Magadhi and Patliputraites because their laathi will concentrate seeking Biharis for good beating. When stopped, we will say we are not Bihari, we are Magadhi. They might even think we are foreigners, having never heard of a Magad state in India. Then we will change the name of River Ganges, Gandak and Kosi. Next will be Gol Ghar, so named by British. We will call it Lamba Ghar. Finally, we will ask Nitish to enact a law to enable we Biharis to change our names every year on 1st. January. This Naamkaran Sanskaar should provide Laakho jobs to poor Brahmins who will be performing name change ceremony.
Yes, we must change names. Not the ground realities. I am sad to see low IQ people with rotten brains debating nonsense here.

Comment by R Singh on January 29, 2012 at 5:17pm Poverty and renaming are different issues, they cannot be equated together. Poverty and health are also important but so is renaming. Its about shedding the colonial past. There is a campaign to change names of places in Australia as well see here. Renaming the state capitals is a gesture of national pride according to them. It is an assertion of our authentic identity and shows due respect for the inhabitants of this extraordinary country.
