How is Sanskar related to Behaviourism with Biharis?

Since ancient time to AD 1087, Bihar had been Centre of attraction, education, civilization, culture, science, art, religions, Karmakand, metaphysics, agriculture, politics, economics etc. Even till late 50s many things were in tact with Bihar. Bihar has been considered as one of the greatest empire ranging from half of Iran to Myanmar (Burma) west to east and from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari north to south. Bihar is land of Karma and Dharma by which the whole life rotates. Bihar has given houses to the people of all religions and given them direction.

Sanskar is one of the main attributes in human which is inculcated since childhood by which a child shape up their style of living, thought, education, relation, groups need tobe in, society he/she need to interact, in nut and shell Biharis were considered well behavioured and cultured from all the angles.

What happened after independence of India when democracy prevailed in our country and state, leaders were not able or did not visualize the lives of people in democratic society and took enough measures to keep their life intact. India was forwarding from socialism agriculture economy to capitalist society and then ‘Pandora’s box’ opened for specially Bihar.

The caste system, landlord system, self pride and respect inculcated earlier came in the way of common Biharis; they were not ready to accept new changes in their overall life but left their life in illusions which was created by political leaders. There were many upheavals in the society based on caste, class, religion, creed and common people got confused and directionless. Common people were not ready to leave their place of birth for earning their livelihood.

Leaders with communist, socialist mindset could not could not visualize or consume the idea of capitalism and its effect on Bihar development so they did not do much as they brought up was not in that environment, slowly money power started dominating human life in Bihar, flood ravaged agricultural power, drought made farmer’s life difficult which affected Biharis in drastic way.

Bihar education policy was same as Britishers time so they started developing administrative, clerical human resource rather than technocrats even now society is not able to digest the phenomena of industrialism, capitalism, commercialism so they did not promote them, as a result increased population with no technical knowledge, skills, education started hard to find ways and means of making their both hands meet.

To survive many young people had taken wrong path to earn money then corruption surfaced in the society which again polluted the whole Bihari society. Money had become very powerful and started talking its own tune, so every one got meshed up in their own life.

Reservation was another aspect of society by which certain class of people got preference and other set of people got setback, there was much hue and cry on this subject but still it was not made free, reservation policy of govt. of India made another set back with educated people in Bihar without employment which again ruined many lives of poor forward class of people, who started selling their land and property to survive.

In all these thing people lost the Culture, Sanskar and behaviourism inculcated at their childhood, now people need money more that ‘Sanskar’.

Hi Rajesh,

Pleased to see that you initiate good topics for the discussion. Sanskar and Behavior/Behaviorism is a relative term but not one and the same.

Sanskar in a layman's term is the set of social values, family values, morality, etiquettes, customary knowledge and good cultural norms which is bequeathed or shared to each individuals by the active and passive communication from his or her's family members, parents and grand parents.

Behavior on the other hand refers to the actions or reactions of an object or organism, usually in relation to the environment. Behavior can be conscious or subconscious, overt or covert.

Relation : By the above explanation we can conclude that Sanskar is the input and Behabior is the output. We tend to act, think and contemplate according to the Sanskar we have or the way we have been brought up by our parents.

Example: When we see that a boy/girl is "Nalayak", we say that he has been brought up in a wrong "Sanskar"or given wrong family values. And we not only condemn the wrong doer but also condemn his parents who brought him up.

Sanskar & Behaviorism in Biharis: I have seen many families of Bihar. And I too am a Bihari. Every parents try to give a right sanskar to their children. Every parents want that their child/ren become a gentleman/lady, do good things and be like, "ram is a Good Boy'. However there is a vast gap between the sanskar what we have been bequeathed and the behavior we do. Why? This is the core issue.

There are many proverbs applicable to this issue. Let me say some:
1. Good words well pronounced.
2. Muh mein ram, Bagal mein Choori.
3. Chirag talae andhera.
4. Jiska Jad(root) hi kharab ho to ooska patta(leaf) to kharab hoga hi.
5. Jaisa Baap waisa beta.
6. As you sow so shall you reap.

And you or the friend list will think of many more proverbs.

These examples signify that one should act in a good way so that his/her child will get a live example to emulate. Simply telling won't work. Better act then say. U want yr child to be honest and good but you take bribe. You want your child to behave well but you have never shown him/her with a good example. You want your child to speak good words and you keep often abusing, cursing, criticizing your neighbors.

Now one more visible things in Bihar is that every parents want to educate their child in English medium school where they think they will get good education, good behavior and will become a gentleman/lady. I agree that education is the most important component of Sanskar. However I have a conviction that Education starts from home and todays schools/colleges do not give education rather they share knowledge. And there is great difference between Knowledge and Education.

Bihar has a rich heritage and classic culture but weak foundation. All the good Sanskar what we get is either not imbibed by us or is lost in the mist of social difference, cast conflict, political corruption and pseudo Family Values. That is the reason we do not behave according to the sanskar we have been given. I do not say that everybody is behavior less. There are many of us who are far better than any body in this world. But the world does not see few, it goes with the majority. And the rest we know that how we are considered in other parts of our own Country.

State politics, social set up and family values play the most important role building a Noble Collective Face of the Society. We have failed to prove to others that we are no less than them.

Brothers, sisters, friends and all, I request you to leave behind these differences, set good examples for yourself and generations to come. Never support the evil. Evils in any face is an evil and it will not only corrupt you or me but the whole of the society. After these many years of "Backward Race", lets move forward to build a "Golden Bihar".

Rebuild Magadh, Glorify Takshila, Restore Nalanda, Enlighten Bodh Gaya and
let the Holy Ganges Flow Pure.

Love & Regards to one and All.

@ Pathak Ji, I read your Post and really liked that because you sticked to your blog's subject line and that was very user friendly and easily to understand for not so intellect person like me, but then come Subodh ji's comment which was no where related to subject and frankly speaking, I did not understand what he mean to say. Then I thought of giving a chance to google it out, and then comes the source in picture, which was more knowledgeable and understandable for person like me. If some one has to copy paste just for the sake of participating in a discussion without touching the core line, they are welcome. But giving source will only enhance our knowledge, don't you think so??? Jealousy is human nature, but he has not done anything so special which I feel jealous about.

There is no problem if some one is doing copy paste kind of work, but need to mention source if any from where the content has been taken. This will only increase our knowledge because as I checked the given source, there are lots of stuff related to Sanskar which Mr. Subodh missed. I think he just put some points from here and there from the given source and pasted here.

The meaning of the word 'Sanskar' is to purify, to refine, to supplement, to brighten, and to adorn the inner conscience of Human.
Sanskar' is a process, which transforms a person into an ideal & outstanding personality by eradicating/controlling the negative mental tendencies existing in him and by inculcating human values & qualities to make him more dynamic, discreet, duty conscious and responsible towards himself as well as family and the society.
Sanskar' is like plantation of a seed of human values into the subconscious of a person during his childhood so that adherence of these values becomes part of his nature and keeps on guiding him throughout his life. A person acts according to the ideals which exist in his subconscious without being aware of them. Thus his decisions, his reactions to actions of others and the quality of his actions depend upon the values existing in his subconscious.
Sanskar' purifies feelings, thoughts and actions/deeds and adds momentum of life.
Sanskar purifies inner conscious of the person and makes life meaningful.
Sanskar' adds good conduct, good thoughts and human qualities to a man's personality and sublimates his mind.
Sanskar forms a culture and develops social values.
Behaviour of a person are always according to his inner values. The Behaviour and Sanskar are integrated to each other.
