I know people will laugh at my chain of thoughts.

I was reading a novel today and a weird thought entered my mind. The heroine of the novel has a heart transplant

And there started the churning of thought process in my mind

How do the people feel after their heart is transplanted or for that matter any other organ is replaced by the organ of somebody else?

In the case of a heart transplant—– the original, the old one who was beating inside the person’s body for so long just disappears from the body.

I wonder what happens to all those feelings, emotions, pains, traumas that the original heart had withstood.

With the change of heart (literally) will the feelings and emotions of the person also change?

Will his feelings, his emotions for someone whom he used to love before the transplant remains the same or change? Or his feeling of hate for someone will change into love now ?

What about all those feelings of jealousy, envy, happiness, anger, love, confidence, anxiety, stress? Will they change with the change of heart?

Will the person stop loving all those whom he used to love beforehand?

With the removal of the store house of the emotions the inmates of the storehouse will also find themselves displaced.

Same is the case when eyes are replaced.

The love which used to ooze out from the earlier eyes does it also disappear with the original holder of the feelings.

And the person who used to read the feelings in the eyes of the victim of the change what would he do now? He will have to start from scratch to decipher the language of the new eyes.

Very complicated?

But ever wondered what the person feels whose organs are transplanted.

We always appreciate the work done by the transplanting team, we congratulate the person who has had the replacement but do we ever think about his emotional turmoil, his hesitations to accept some foreign object?

To use something of others, to accept it as his own, love, cherish and take care of something which belonged to other requires guts, immense strength and will power.

Hi Neha,

Technically the actual heart has nothing to do with our emotions neither it has a memory to remember relationship & incidents. Like other organs (Lung, Kidney etc), it is just an organ centrally controlled by our brain & having role as central pumping stations. Please see below 2 links for more details.

However in case of brain transplantations your discussion might have prominence!!!

Hi Neha, You have raised a very essential issue which presently people, politics and policy maker has kept it on back burners. Your followers have mistook you interpreting your question. Your question is not about whether emotions arise from heart rather here the point is about, "Organ Transplantation and the sufferings lived by the donors of Organs and the hesitations or guilt by the acceptor." Here follows my view. Acceptors are always in utter need of the organs but for which they cant live. So even if they may hate foreign organ they have to get it transplanted. The things which they need to take care of are that the acceptors should not force anybody to donate the organs. Organs must not be taken from a living body. Eg. I need a heart transplant to live and I ask, force, influence or flatter someone to donate his heart, giving which he will have to die. So that living is not a worthy living. Live to let others live. Now comes the turmoil of the donors. I would never like to donate my leg to make a lame man run. Would you? Yes but I will if he is my family member, I will if I am dying and someone else can use my organs to live a happy life, I will give if I am dying of hunger, poverty and filth. Yes but if I am forced to give my organs I will really suffer a lot in my life. Organs are not like bricks if you run short of you can purchase it from any vendor. Today I have two legs and tomorrow if by any reason I am compelled to depart from it, I will be shattered. My hopes will die, my dreams will never provoke my to give me a reason to live. I will be a living dead. Eg. Take a child. He loves his toys very much. Just try to take away from him. God forbid, he will create a havoc. So compare it with taking away of anybody's limbs. What havoc he will have in his life. On the other hand, I should also say that if it (transplantation or donation) is the last resort, it should be done with justice, humanity and adequate financial compensation. Along with that the acceptor should show gratitude, empathy and emotional attachment with the donors. The donor should be made his family member. Every human being has a dream, let him Sleep, let him Dream but let him live a Worthy Living.

Whatever feelings we have whether love, anger, jealousy, hatred, are not created by heart but by mind or brain. In fact Heart does not create love or hate or anger. It is created by brain. Brain controls our whole body to make in tune. It is just a belief that emotions are originated by heart because of the effect of the emotions is physically felt in heart. Just for example your heart beats faster when you see someone special, whom you love. Then you can't say that it is your heart which is creating emotions for the person before you. It is just your grey cell which is controlling everything. It is your eyes which is perceiving and sending the data to your mind and your mind then sending it to your heart which is feeling with warm emotions towards that what you perceived then. Your heart beat creates a heavy blood flow cause by the strong emotions and feelings which you are experiencing from your brain.
