My ancestor came from Bihar, India in June 1858 to Mauritius to work as labourer. He was my great great grandfather. I have always wanted to know from which village/place he was from and even, visit the village, Godwiling, one day.
In September 2009, I have been able to trace my ancestor who came to Mauritius. According to records available at the Indian Immigration Museum in Mauritius as recorded in June 1858, he was from:
My great great grandfather was from
Village: Nurunjempore
Zillah: Arrah
Pergunnah: Bhojepore
(State of Bihar, India)
He arrived in Mauritius on 07 June 1858 Port of Embarkation: Calcutta.
From my research, I understand that the Sub-district of Bhojepore of 1858 is now divided into more districts namely Bhojpur, Rohtas, Buxar and Kaimur . Thus, the village of Nurunjempore (now written as Niranjanpur) in the Sub-district of Bhojepore (of 1858) as recorded could be located in any of the districts: Arrah/Bhojpur or nearby districts of Rohtas, Buxar and Kaimur.
I have done some internet search to locate that village in Bihar from such websites as: http://www.maavooru.net (now difficult to access now) and www.brandbihar.com According to these websites, there are 5 “Niranjanpur” in Rohtas(two), Buxar(two) and Kaimur(one) altogether. Check if Sub-district of Piro is divided further, and get how it is spelt now and surf on www.brandbihar.com. I can not continue I have arrived at the word limit. Bonne chance and mes meilleurs voeux.
