Bhojpuri is a regional dialect of Hindi that is spoken in the Hindi heartland of India. This includes Bihar and Eastern Uttar Pradesh. In recent years Bhojpuri songs have become increasingly popular in Bollywood movies. Although Bhojpuri is seen as the language of the Bihari people as popularised by Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav; it is nevertheless recognised as a great culture of the Hindi speaking people of Bihar.
Being a dialect of Hindi and easily understood and utilises the Devnagri script, it has not been recognised as a separate language nor is there is a demand for it. However, the people of "Bhojpur", the heart of Bhojpur culture is as distinct as Hindi itself.
The culture of Bhojpuri songs has become a source of growing demand for entertainment in India. This has given opportunity to young talented folks from Bihar to explore their talent in the Indian Music Industry.
Of the most notable singers of Bhojpuri songs include the evergreen Manoj Tiwari. He is what Amitabh Bachchan is to Bollywood and Will Smith is to Hollywood. He has featured in enormous numbers of films and videos and even sings his own albums. Female artist Sharda Sinha has been singing for more that three decades and is almost a legend. Not only she is famous in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh but throughout India. Single handled she popularised Bhojpuri songs to such an extent that Bhojpuri songs are now seen as a fashion items in Indian cinema. The third most famous personality is "Guddu Rangila". The credit if making funny videos and singing amazing songs are given to this singer.
Bhojpuri is one of the many Hindi dialects spoken in Bihar; others include Mathili and Magahi. It is considered that "Ardha (half) Magahi" is the very language of Pali that was spoken centuries ago during the time of "Ashoka the Great". Most Buddhist cannons and literature found around the world specially Sri Lanka are in Pali, a derivative of Bhojpuri and Bihari group of languages.
Taking into consideration the rise in popularity of Bhojpuri in recent times; the Government of Bihar and India should consider treating it as a separate and distinct language and holding Bhojpuri seminars in at least Hindi speaking regions of India.
Bhojpuri is one of the many several dialects of Hindi spoken mainly in Bihar, Eastern India and some sections of Nepal. Bhojpuri songs are being used in Hindi cinema to add extra flavour. In recent years Bhojpuri songs have now become popular not only in Bihar region but also in the rest of India and Hindi speaking community of Mauritius.
