Who was Aryabhatta?

Many people dispute the fact that Aryabhatta, the Indian mathematician was born in Patna. Especially the people of Kerala claims that Aryabhatta was actually from Kerala.

It might be true that Aryabhatta might have been born in Kerala and travelled to Patliputra because at the time of the Gupta period, Patliputra was the highest seat of learning at Nalanda University. People only of India but the whole world came to get knowledge. However, some facts actually point that Aryabhatta was actually from Patliputra and not Kerala. Firstly the name Arya Bhatt or Arya Bhatta is a typical north Indian name. Both Arya and Bhatt are commonly used in Bihar and Uttar Prasdesh as a surname. Secondly he is described someone from Kusumpura and Kusumpura is non other than Patliputra modern day Patna. Aryabhatta is a great patrol of Algebra.
