VALMIKINAGAR TIGER RESERVE is a recently established tiger sanctuary. But the entire project has been appropriated by Babus and Politicians. Could we expect real conservation from such people as our experience from other tiger reserve tells us ? I feel that public participation is vital to this project in saving tigers.
In 2000, there were 56 tigers in this area. Now there are only 12 tigers left. What we can do is to actively engage in tiger conservation by visiting the area, living with villagers, educating them and their children of the benefit of conservation. I know there are such projects run by nature enthusiasts in Dudhwa, Corbett, Kanha. Can we not get involved in some way ?
Post your views, plan if any and project you can think of.

As so rightly pointed out by Dr Kumar, It can be brought back to its former glory, if sustained and right approach towards creating awareness about it is followed. Personally, this reserve is close to my heart even as I have fond memories of it. I spent my childhood in Champaran as then my mother was posted there. She was Head Mistress at a girls’ school at Bagha, Champaran. Often, she organized school excursions to the forest zone and we had a wonderful and thrilling time there with others.

Permalink Reply by Atik Warsi on January 9, 2012 at 4:30pm We really need to promote more and more to VNTR. Its not only duties of government its our duty also to discuss about this hidden adventure. I m feeling guilty as a Bihari that I m really not aware about VNTR. And one of my dream to go in Jim Corbet(Utrakhand), Sariska tiger reserve & RTR(Rajsthan) But its never come in my mind that i dont have to go other state while its available in our Bihar

Why bother going to forest to see an elusive tiger? Let us catch them all, keep in the Zoo and Circus and watch there. They will be safe from poachers.

Good idea for a Disney world type resort. Not a wildlife sanctuary. Its ideal location will be Patna, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Motihari etc.The whole idea is to use locally available material for building accomodaion, no brick work, use locan artisan, employ and train local people to include them in conservation, provide jobs and share in the prosperity.

Permalink Reply by Samir Sinha on January 24, 2012 at 8:47pm Dear R Singh, if we do not protect and conserve tiger we will run out of water in our streams and rivers!!! More than 350 stream in India originate from the forests, which are tiger reserves. In Bihar, the Burhi Gandak River originates from Valmiki Tiger Reserve. Tiger is not simply an animal, it is an indicator of health of forests.
Dr. Ajay Kumar said:
Singh Saheb, feeding poors and hungry is the job of government, not poor tiger. Sadly, tiger doesn't have vote. It is worth remembering that 40% food rot in absence of refrigeration, red tape, Babuism. Tigers are our identity, national treasure. If they are creating trouble in your village, it is not the fault of tiger but humans.
Deforestation, encroachment on tiger's territory result in human - tiger conflict. A well tried and trusted approach to conervation on scientific basis, educating villagers outside forest is important.
