Permalink Reply by Umeshwar Prasad Sinha on November 25, 2009 at 8:40am The Gender Gap Review reveals India's dismal position. Out of 134 countres surveyed, India is among the lowest ranked countries at the 114th position.
Only 14 per cent of the companies surveyed, have 40 per cent or more women among their employees. These women employees are mainly present at the entry and middle levels of management, while very few women attain senior management level.
Most companies do not track salary gaps, despite the clear wage gaps between women and men only 4 per cent of the companies surveyed are attempting to monitor salary gaps.
"Women, as half of the human capital of India, will need to be more efficiently integrated into the economy in order to boost India's long-term competitive potential. The World Economic Forum's survey of some of the biggest companies in India shows that, to achieve this integration, Indian companies will need to set targets, improve policies to close salary gaps and promote work-life balance," said Saadia Zahidi, co-author of the Forum's Global Gender Gap Report 2009.
India has closed 93 per cent of its health gender gap, 84 per cent of its education gap, 41 per cent of its economic participation gap and 27 per cent of the political empowerment gender gap according to The Global Gender Gap Report 2009. India's middle class will see rapid growth off a very low base, but the shifts in spending that we outline are likely to remain constrained by women's relatively low status, at least for the next 10 to 15 years.
India holds last place among the BRIC countries on the Index, behind Russia (51), China (60) and Brazil (82). In South Asia, the sub-continent is in second-to-last place behind Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and ahead of Pakistan. Sri Lanka leads in the rankings by far, holding 16th position, followed by Bangladesh (94), Maldives (100), Nepal (110).
The Global Gender Gap Index examines the gap between men and women in four fundamental categories: economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, political empowerment and health and survival.
Economic Participation and Opportunity: 0.412 (Rank 127)
Educational Attainment: 0.843 (Rank 121)
Health and Survival: 0.931 (Rank 131)
Political Empowerment: 0.273 (Rank 24)
Ability of women to rise to enterprise leadership: 4.84

Permalink Reply by Rashmi Sinha on December 29, 2009 at 4:12pm rashmi jee! apne is social issue ko bahut hi behatarin tarike se samne rakha hai. amit kumar jee ke vichar bhi sahi hai. aj hum chah kar bhi samaj mein mahilaon ko unka sthan nahi dila pa rahe hai. shayad mai abhi vishay se bhatak raha hun.....
anyway log beti ko pasand nahi karte, karan
Dahej lene walo par comment kasa jaye tatha use adar karna chhor diya jaye..... mai janta hun ki is raste par chalne ke liye bahut kam log taiyar honge, magar mai Har manane wala nahi.... mai apne param mitra aparajey kumar ke sath is mission par chal para hun....... mere mitra aparajey Air force mein hai aur mai railway mein, pariwar tatha riste-natedar hamare faisle ko uchit nahi mante.....
fir bhi hum isi raste par chalenge,,,,,
hum unlogo ko pranam nahi karte jo dahej lekar shadi karte hai aur mahilaon ke samman ke viprit acharan karte hue samvidhan ke anuchhed 51A(e) ka ullanghan karte hai.... samaj prachalit vartman pratha ko tyagte hue niyam banaya jaye ki var ke pita jee kanya ke pita jee ko uncha sthan de aur unse angeya(kuchh rupaye aur lota mein pani dene ki vidha) mange.....
aur bhi kai sujhao diye jane chahiye aur is par sabhi ko amal karte hue garv kiya jana chahiye.....
