During last 64 post-independence years, many a states in India has developed by leaps and bound. In comparision, our Bihar state has not only remained undeveloped but at times sunk into stone age. Poverty, malnutrition is widespread, preventable diseses are rampant, infrastructure nonexistent, opportunities absent, forcing people to emigrate to earn living either in India or abroad. Law and order is in shambles. People are psycologically uplifted, enamoured by Nitish and blind to ground reality, thah nothing of significence has happened in last six years. There is something drastically wrong deep down, something really rotten. Our state is a failed state.

No doubt, Bihar was a best governed yet poorest state in India despite its mineral wealth. Back in late 1950s, Sardar Pratap Singh Kairon managed to take most handouts from centre and put Punjab on road to prosperity. Where were our Sri Krishn Babu ? Stealing and scam started in late 1950s in Biharunder the nose of Sri Babu. Ask any elder. The right hand man of Sri Babu, and Tranport Minister, Mahesh Prasad Singh, made lots of money when state government bought Bus for state transport Corporation. That was then. From that money, a flat in Marine Drive, Bombay was bought in the name of his daughter, Neelam. Stealing and scam in Bihar has been going on for ages. Then, the ammount were small, in recent times, it became astronomical sums. Then, people did not make footpath, pavements their homes, now it is visible everywhere in Bihar. Look at middle aged and elderly poors, thin and emaciated, pulling rickshaw and overloaded thela. Watch malnourished, stunted, anaemic children on the road selling something instead of being in school.
Make no mistake. Our politicians are not solution but they are THE problem. They only know how to make public fool, covet luxurious life style in government bunglows. And IAS officers are no better, they too are part of the problem.
When 80% people can not get basic healthcare, education and safe drinking water together with four square meals in 64 years, then what is a failed state ? It is all very well to say law and order is not what it was during Laalu - Rabri era, but are we really satisfied with and feel 100% safe in current law and order situation ? Is present law and order situaton what we aspire to ? Nitish is entering 7th, year of his rule. In politics, it is a long time. Bihar is like Gabdhi Setu, "Jarjar, dilapidated, crumbling. If this has not been put right in seven years, its jams not solved, Patna traffic jams not solved, what and where is development ? Does not Bihar fulfills criteria for a failed state ?
Permalink Reply by Shalu Sharma on July 16, 2011 at 3:53pm Prakash ji, I love Bihar like I love my mother. Despite staying, studying and earning some money abroad, I came back to live and work in and from my beloved state of Bihar. Not many people do that. Although based in Mumbai and Bagalore, I make sure I spend atleast 10-12 days in Khagaul every month and do my bit.
Road is not a parameter of development. We don't eat road, nor we study road. We don't light road for illumination nor we drink road. Healthcare, infrastructure, education, increased life expectancy of population, upliftment of poors from poverty, jobs for most if not all are the parameters of development. I wish I could say our state is developing but I am afraid I can't because it is not. Look at the number of people toiling in backbreaking jobs day in and day out yet earning Rs. 100/- per day or less. Seven years ago people lived in shacks, roadside huts and pavements in Patna. They do so in all towns of Bihar. They are still living there. Ask now, if there has been development, why are they still there ?
Newsmedia - Politicians - IAS Babus are hand in gloves. Like Goebels, they are trumpeted "Development", Development". To show development they show the same roads being built, culverts and bridges being repaired year in, year out. They don't show hospitals, schools offices being built. Forget construction, they don't even show repair being done. Thanks to media blitz, entire population of our beloved Bihar has been made to hallucinate.
We the educated should call the bluff of Nitish government. Laalu - Rabri Raj was Jungle Raj; Nitish Raj is Hallucination Raj. We the educated should learn from Egyptians and Tunisians. Let us educate our poor, uneduated 80% to their unchanging plight since 1947. Let us go out to them and tell them what is going on and how they are being made a fool.
