In a country whose constitution enshrines freedom of expression, how far censorship is compatible insuch a state ? How can one justify censorship. Freedom of expression give right to all who are expressing, at the same time it gives right to those who do not want to become familiar with those topics. Turn the face away, The very existence of Film censor and Information and Broadcasting ministry is a joke in todays world when everything is available on internet and setellite TV.
Isn't Kapil Sibbal making himself look fool and India a laughing stock in the eyes of the world ? What do you all think about it ?

In "Incredible India" everything is possible. Kyon ki yeha sub cheez ka jugaad hai. If our constitution grant freedom of expression, then we apply some Jugaad to undermine this freedom. That is what Sibal is doing. We are laughing stock in the world now. I find this on my business travels to different countries.
Permalink Reply by Atik Warsi on December 24, 2011 at 3:17am Freedom of expression should not cross the limit...Every one have right to say something in democratic way but these days the way we were expressing its not a freedom of expression. Excess every thing is bad. People of US and UK also expressing their view against their leader but they are not abusing them.
We should not have right only few people to abuse a PM of a Democratic country, we can criticize a government , a leader, a political party with manner without abusing them.

Absolute "Freedom" was never promised by the Indian Constitution or for that matter most western constitutions. I think many of us think that "freedom of speech" means we can talk about anything.. ! That's a myth..
At any point of time, when the "right to freedom of speech" clashes with any other article in the constitution, in many cases the article takes priority. For e.g. freedom of speech doesn't give the right to any citizen to talk against "religious harmony" or hate speeches targeted against any particular community or talk against the "existence of the Union of India"...
Separate clauses/articles to cover these and in most cases severe charges can be pressed against culprits violating any of these existing articles.
Having set the context, now, one should question - Would the current proposal by Sibbal saheb is required ? Is there something that we have not met with in the constitution ? The answer in my view is NO.
This looks like a political gimmick nothing more and I would strongly condemn it...
Permalink Reply by Shalu Sharma on December 24, 2011 at 4:07pm The court tells networking sites to remove content by Feb 19 2012. So much for freedom of speech in India. Kapil Sibil will go down as emperor Nero. At the moment there are 21 social networking sites including Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Yahoo and Youtube.
I was also approached by the Asst. Commissioner of Police, Delhi Police (Cyber Crime Cell) to remove an image of Digvijay Singh and Rahul Gandhi.
It is interesting to note that Delhi police is acting as the watch dog of the Congress party and its a crime to post images of the family. I removed the image. Was I right? Here is an image of the email sent to me by cyber crime branch of Delhi police.
You know why ?
Politicians have made sure that 75% of Bharat waasi remain illeterate and half educated. It is lot easier to rule over them than me and you.

Permalink Reply by Shalu Sharma on February 6, 2012 at 1:18pm To the Hon'ble Court of Law India,
Sir/Madame,
Please explain to me, after censoring all blogs and social media, banning books (Salman Rushdie, Taslima Nasreen), where is the "Liberty of thought and expression" guaranteed to us in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution. If you are planning to implement these censors, please remove and amend the word "Liberty" from the Preamble so that our kids don't grow up learning and believing in a fake constitution.
Well said, Madam ji. We are not a genuinely free and democratic country like USA, UK, Sweden, Denmak and France. We are like Pakistan, Burma, Bangladesh, China and Saudi Arabia.
Permalink Reply by Ragini Bhatiya on February 6, 2012 at 4:22pm This stupid Indian government should just ban the entire Internet, ban cameras, TV and phones. It is strange that our courts and government can be so dumb.
Permalink Reply by R Singh on February 6, 2012 at 5:26pm The government is shouting at the social networking sites. They are just afraid of people and do not wish them to express themselves. The government had similarly raised the issue of "Google Earth" & "Wikimapia". This happens only in India and (China).

You can sit down in any corner of the world and expose the political elite who control every aspect of our lives. They have a switch and can shut us down when ever they want. So enjoy the freedom of the internet while you can. It won’t last for ever. The courts verdict is out. No more freedom to post what you want.
