Have you been asked this question, “Do you speak Bihari”. The answer to the questions is always No or big NO, I DONT SPEAK BIHARI. I find myself telling them that I speak Hindi and not Bihari at home. Yes we do encounter other languages from Bihar but it does not mean I know how to speak it.
Most of the people speak Hindi with varying dialects. As far as I am aware there are Hindi dialects spoken in Bihar such as Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magahi, Angika and so on but they are not called "Bihari". I have always maintained that there is no such language as Bihari.
Do you get this questions? Do you speak Bihari?

Permalink Reply by Shalu Sharma on March 16, 2012 at 5:48pm Just like Marathi, Bengali, Punjabi after Maharashtra, Bengal, Punjab, some people are confusing language of Bihar with Bihari. The main language of Bihar is Hindi. Others are just dialects which some of us may know or not know. Hindi is the only Indian language taught in Schools across Bihar. Bhojpuri or other langauges are not even covered in schools even in districts where they are spoken such as Ara, Buxar. Some people not from Bihar do get confused about the languages of Bihar. No such as Bihari langauge.
