Do you speak Bihari?
Have you been asked this question, “Do you speak Bihari”. The answer to the questions is always No or big NO, I DONT SPEAK BIHARI. I find myself telling them that I speak Hindi and not Bihari at home. Yes we do encounter other languages from Bihar but it does not mean I know how to speak it.
Most of the people speak Hindi with varying dialects. As far as I am aware there are Hindi dialects spoken in Bihar such as Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magahi, Angika and so on but they are not called "Bihari". I have always maintained that there is no such language as Bihari.
Do you get this questions? Do you speak Bihari?

There is no language called Bihari..yes Hindi is spoken in Bihar in a different way.For your information Maithili is not a dialect of Hindi but it is a language recognized by constitution of India.

I often speak bhojpuri even in office as some of colleagues belongs from Bihar. I am proud of being Bihari. I speak bhojpuri in home with my parents.

रउवा के बिहारी भाषा न आवेला त एमे राउर कौनो कसूर नइखे बिहार में घुमले रहतीं त रउवा भोजपुरी बोले के जरुए सिख जयितीं !वैसे हमहूँ बिहार में नैखिं रहल बाकिर आपन मात्री भाषा समझ के सीख लिहनी ! बिहारी भाषा कौनो एगो भाषा के नाम न ह ,जवन प्रश्न के रउवा बात करत बानी ( Do you speak Bihari? ) इ प्रश्न त कौनो एसने आदमी ही पूछ सकेला जेकरा के बिहार और बिहारी लोग के बारे में बिलकुल भी ज्ञान नइखे और या त उ इ सब जानते हुए भी अनजान बने के कोशिश करेला !
कुछ लोग होलें जो आपन भाषा,संस्कृति और रहन सहन के पूरा दुनिया तक प्रसिद्ध करे खातिर जिंदगी बिता देवे लें और कुछ लोग दूसरा के भाषा और संस्कृति के आपन मान के पूरा जिन्दगी बिता दिहलें ! इ सब इतिहास बता रहल बा !
और हमरा मालूम बा की रउवा भी यह बात के समझ सकत बानी ! बाकिर एगो शंस्ये हमरा दिमाग में बाटे रउवा यदि ओकरा के दूर करदीं त राउर
बहुत कृपा हो जयित, उ शंस्ये इ बा की राउर जो सरनेम भाटिया (रागिनी भाटिया )बाटे उ त पंजाबी लोग के सरनेम बाटे बिहार में हम नईखी सुनले और ना ही देखले बानी !
एह से की हम बिहार में रहले ही नईखी जो भी बिहार के बारे में ज्ञान मिलल बा उ इ साईट उ बिहार से मिलल या आप जैसन लोग से मिलल बा ! रउवा 'भाटिया' वाला हमर प्रश्न के उत्तर जरुर देहब

You are right satyendra "bhatia" is a Punjabi surname..but whoever lives in Bihar is a Bihari

Why a punjabi can not live in Bihar ? And if a Punjabi called Sigh can be found in Patna, why not a Bhatiya ?

I know lots of people living in Bihar specially Patna who have migrated from other states. Many of them don't know Bhojpuri or Magahi. No one expects them to. As for us, we don't know Bhojpuri either but we do speak Magahi at least when we visit villages. You can't really expect Patnaites to speak Bhojpuri. Bhojpuri unfortunately has been given to all the languages spoken in Bihar. But our mother tongue is Hindi. But we feel proud of Bhojpuri and other Bihari languages spoken in Bihar. When we are in Delhi, its always a pleasure to hear someone speaking the language of the state. That does not mean I know how to speak it. But we have to support our heritage and that includes all languages.
