Delhi has set up an emergency number “181” to deal help women in distress. However when you call this number, the callers are greeted with a long delay. I hope this can be sorted out very soon.
Nevertheless, I am asking the Nitish Kumar and the Bihar government to set up a similar centre for women in Bihar. Bihar is a place where crimes against women are often ignored. There have been cases of gang-rape, dalit women being paraded naked, kidnapping, forced marriages, dowry deaths, harassment etc and many of these cases are not reported, even if they are reported hardly anything happens.
The question is what a Bihari woman do if they face problems? They cannot approach the police and there are hardly any organisation that can deal with women’s issues.
An emergency number/helpline for women will be very useful where the operator can then send/alert police/ambulance/fire brigade/coast guard/rescue/help the woman concerned.
Also a women's centre somewhere in Bihar preferably in Patna dedicated for helping distressed women should be set up.
Please share your thoughts if this is a good idea.

any how, i am being rapped /murdered/tortured/kidnapped and you think the culprit will allow me to make a call.
these are the things which happens within 30 minutes . even god will turn down your request if you ask him to reach you in 30 minutes.
sorry sorry sorry you are talking about post-rape/ murder/kidnapping/ etc. delhi police took the victim to hospital, lodged FIR, nabbed all the culprits, chargesheeted still we are unhappy, shouting and protesting.
we indians have a terrible habbit of complaining and nagging.some went too far stating they are sorry to be citizens of india. i feel it is contrary. we like selling our responsibilities. i am bullied and one sitting next to moves away saying- waha mat jao , lafra ho raha hai. instead of protesting now, had we developed the culture to protest than and there than only the entire system including the criminals will think twice before enacting.we the so called ellite/ educated people stop our children/husband from raising our voice ' udhar jana nahi hai/ aapko kya matlab hai'.
remember shouting on the system will not serve the purpose. dont forget people working in the very system is also subjected to same music they are not from mars. rapist doesnt ask for voter id card to know family bck ground.
mam with due respect we are debating no hard feelings
Permalink Reply by R Singh on January 6, 2013 at 1:41am I think this is a good idea. A centre like this where a woman can make complains is a tremendous idea. I think govern. of Bihar should take note of this.A help centre cum call centre like this should be operated by women only so that complainants do no feel intimidated and lodge their complain without fear.
I hope the govern. authorities look into this. But then we are talking about Bihar.
Permalink Reply by Sachchidanand Pandey on January 6, 2013 at 4:28am Well, Now it is dare need to make strict law to prevent such crimes against women.
It also require proper education in which moral and life saving techniques must be taught.
The law of our country is impotent in solving a lot of problems.
The system of appoint ment of judges are faulty.
Political Parties depends upon the mercy of voters and not the grace of our countrymen.
NOW I DEMAND FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF 'JAN ADALAT" FOR INSTANT JUSTICE.
Thanking you for independent India (not now).

Thats the main issues. Even is such a service is set up, but not sure how effective will it be. But nonetheless, we must put pressure on the government.

Idea is perfectly good, but we need an effective implementation & capable peoples to implement such a big & important project. This can be done through society pressure and strong political cum social will power.

You are right Amit. Mostly these things are ignored by educated people only. They don't want to go into any hassle. But definitely a dedicated call/help center will be useful, so at least where to contact when in need. If victim is not able to contact some other person may also call for her.

Permalink Reply by Shalu Sharma on January 8, 2013 at 2:04pm The reality is that a special contact place can be useful. The women are afraid to go to the police station hence a place operated by women only is a good idea.
