Ref: INFORMATION ABOUT ANCESTRAL VILLAGES IN STATE OF

BIHAR

Dear Respected members and friends

.I am a Mauritian. My ancestor came from Bihar, India in June 1858 to Mauritius to work as labourer. He was my great great grandfather. I have always wanted to know from which village/place he was from and even, visit the village, Godwilling, one day.

In September 2009, I have been able to trace my ancestor who came to Mauritius. According to records available at the Archives Department of the Indian Immigration Museum in Mauritius as recorded in June 1858, he was from:

My great great grandfather, DULULL, son of Lollsah, was from

Village: Nurunjempore

Zillah: Arrah

Pergunnah: Bhojepore

(State of Bihar, India)

He arrived in Mauritius on 07 June 1858 on the ship: Atiet Rohoman. Port of Embarkation: Calcutta. (please refer to Annex 1)

I understand that the District of Arrah of 1858 is now divided into more districts . Thus, the village of Nurunjempore ( now written as Niranjanpur) in the District of Arrah (of 1858) as recorded in Mauritius in June 1858 could be located in any of the districts: Arrah/Bhojpur or nearby districts of Rohtas, Buxar and Kaimur.

I have done some internet search to locate that village in Bihar from such websites as:. : maavooru.net and brandbihar.com According to these websites, there are 5 “Niranjanpur” in Rohtas, Buxar and Kaimur altogether (none in Arrah/Bhojpur) and one “ Niranjanpur” in Jehanadad/ Aiwal District. (Jehanadad/ Aiwal District has never formed part of Arrah District of 1858, isn’t and am I right). The 5 “Niranjanpur” in Rohtas,Buxar and Kaimur are as follows:

(a) Kaimur District

Block Chainpur

Niranjanpur (population 508)

(b) Buxar District

(1)Block Buxar

Niranjanpur (population 728)

(2)Block Dumraon

Niranjanpur (population 584)

(c) Rohtas District

(1)Block Karakat

Niranjanpur (population 1907)

(2)Block Sasaram

Niranjanpur (population 302)

The details of the one in Jehanabad/ Aiwal district is as follows:

Block Kahler

Niranjanpur (population 1385)

The Village “Niranjanpur” I am searching could be anyone of the above mentioned.

Now, as residents of Buxar and Bihar, , I would appreciate very much if you could help me to know : (a) which one of the above “Niranjanpur’s” is most probable that my ancestor was from, based on which ones already existed in 1858 and the boundary of Arrah District and Bhojepore Sub-division Boundary in 1858 and subsequent redrawn of their boundaries. (b) any other government/non-government organizations worth contacting who are familiar with the Geography and History of Bihar and dealing with the carthography of Bihar state/their districts. (c) Am I right to assume that the most probable one(Niranjanpur) is the one in Buxar (Block Dumraon) because as recently as about 20 years ago, Buxar was part of Bhojpur.

Secondly, my great great grandmother (wife of “DULULL” )came from Bihar, India in June 1858 to Mauritius on the same ship with her parents.

Her name was BUCHNY(11 y.o in 1858), daughter of Emamdy(Father) and Lohurry (mother), was from

Village: Turrookchaukun
(Toorookchaukeea on her parents’ records in Mauritius)

Zillah: Arrah

Pergunnah: Bhojepore
(State of Bihar, India)

Again, I have done some internet search to locate that village in Bihar from such site as:. maavooru.net and brandbihar.com According to these websites, there is a village by the name of “TARA CHAK”(population 1388 inhabitants) in the Block of Agiaon of Bhojpur District.

(c) Did the “Tara Chak” Village in the Agiaon Block of Bhojpur District exist in 1858 and if yes, is it the same village as recorded as “TurrookChaukun” or “Toorookchaukeea” in 1858 in Mauritius?

These are very specific questions. I think you really have to come to Bihar and check it out for yourself. Unless one is from these places, its difficult for someone to know.
What you need is a holiday in Bihar and to check the details out by actually going there.
There are some people from Ara and Buxar such as http://www.youbihar.com/profile/DrRaviKantDubey
You may wish to contact them.
Thank you, dear respected friends, Shalu Sharma and Amit Pandey, for your prompt and encouraging replies. I am looking forward to visiting Bihar in some near future, Godwiiling and in the meantime, try to post on the other groups also. I cherish the dream of visiting my ancestral villages in Bihar.
