, This news is on the main page of youbihar. Newly married Rajesh Mandal of Bhagalpur has committed suicide by swallowing poison. Reason ? His bride was very dark skinned whereas Rajesh Mandal was vey light skinned. He could not tolerate female neighbours taunt that a very fair skinned groom should not have such a dark skinned bride.
Look at the matrimonials advertisement. Everyone advertise they are very fair skinned or very light skinned. Therefore they want similar light skinned match for themselves.
We are not only casteist, we are racists too.

Permalink Reply by Rachna Gupta on June 5, 2012 at 6:48pm How sad this story is. I will say that Rajesh failed to protect his newly married wife. Now for rest of her life, she wil live as an outcaste, shunned and her life is destroyed. Rajesh Mandal was a weak man, unfit to be a husband. He failed to defend his wife. He was a coward and hopless. I hope this unfortunate widow find a new, understanding husband who will defend and protect her.
Permalink Reply by Shalu Sharma on June 5, 2012 at 7:17pm It is definitely very sad. Sad it may be but its not racism that you find in Great Britain. In Britain you can be murdered for being Black or stabbed for being Asian. There are numerous such racist cases in Europe. But this is a case of fairness or beauty and nothing to do with racism.
Permalink Reply by Rachna Gupta on June 5, 2012 at 9:12pm I don't know about racism in Britain as I have never been there, so I can not comment on issue about which I have no experience or knowledge. Besides, what British do to Asians in Britain is not relevant to our debate here. We are talking about skin colour amongst ourselves within our own Indian community. If you are very dark skinned and poor then what chance you have to find a good looking light skinned husband ? Pity the father of the girl. If it is not one race against another race, it is internal racism and worst form of discrimination. Do you not agree with what I say ? And for God sake, do not bring Europeans, Arabs. Latino, Africans in our debate because they are irrelevant to our Bihar problem or Indian problem.
i also notice that you are very prompt in putting our own faults under the carpet pretending they do not exist. If you do that, how on earth are you going to rectify our own faults ?

Permalink Reply by Shalu Sharma on June 5, 2012 at 10:06pm I think we are confusing the two terms, skin colour and skin tone. Indians want lighter skin tone but not white. This is similar to Europeans wanting "skin tan" and not wanting to become black.
Permalink Reply by Rachna Gupta on June 6, 2012 at 2:27am In our ancient Aryan tradition, VERN as in Sanskrit, was main form of division of the society. Very fair skinned were Brahmins, then light skinned were warrior class, dusky were artisan, traders and darlk skinned were Shudra. The indegenious population were Rakhchas (demons), Malech, Asur (Assarians) etc. They are potraid as ugly looking dark skinned people who were not allowed to assimilate with invading Aryans. It was a primitive but highly effective Aparthied, later practiced by South Africa.
Sometimes ago I saw a documentary on BBC24 by a doctor called Dr. Alice Roberts about human evolution. In that she said that during Ice age, people were forced to live for thousands of years in caves thus away from sunlight. This led to two things. The pigment disappeared, and lack of sunlight led to Vitamin d deficiency. So they suffred from rickets. Thats how Europeans became white skinned. Originally we were all of same complexion when we left Africa. Because we all originated in Africa around Ethiopia - Kenya area.
