Chaturbhuja Vishnu temple, Deo, w. Bihar consecrated to the Sun God Surya in the 10th C. and converted into a Vishnu temple in the 15th C.. The curvilinear superstructure is typical of Northern India -this sikhara is crowned by an 'amalaka', a stone disk. Some propose it symbolizes the sun and is a spiritual gateway up. Or it may be a lotus the symbolic seat of the deity inside. Perhaps here the first meaning was converted to second.
